Simple Ground Turkey Tacos!

A healthy, lean protein Simple Turkey Taco is a weekly staple in our home—and for good reason. It’s quick, flavorful, and endlessly versatile.

Not only does my husband LOVE tacos (in all forms), but this simple turkey taco filling can be used for so much more than just tacos—think taco salads, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and even taco soup. Leftovers? Toss them into eggs the next morning for an easy breakfast scramble or breakfast burritos.

Tacos are also one of my favorite ways to feed a crowd. Set out tortillas, chips, or greens, and let everyone build their own plate with their favorite toppings—cheese, avocado, bell peppers, salsa…the options are endless.

Step 1: Prep the Turkey (Optional Step)

Sprinkle baking soda over ground turkey and let sit for a few minutes.

Step 2: Sauté Aromatics

In a skillet or Dutch oven or Cast Iron Skillet, sauté diced onion until softened. Add garlic and cook briefly.

Step 3: Brown the Turkey

Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

Step 4: Season

Stir in cumin, taco seasoning, salt, and pepper. Optional: add red pepper flakes or ½ cup salsa for extra flavor.

Step 5: Add Beans & Serve

Stir in drained & rinsed black beans and heat through.

Serve
Use as a base for tacos, taco salads, burritos, or bowls. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 1–2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 tsp baking soda optional
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1–2 tsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1 can black beans drained
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Cast iron skillet or Dutch oven
  • Taco holders (optional, but great for serving)

Method
 

  1. Sauté onion, then garlic.
  2. Add turkey and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in seasonings (and optional salsa).
  4. Add black beans and heat through.
  5. Serve with tortillas and toppings.
